Bloemfontein Knife Makers Club
The Bloemfontein Knife Makers Club (BKMC) was established in 1990 under the visionary chairmanship of Corrie Schoeman. The four other founding members were Conrad Pienaar, Eddie Scott, Willem Spangenberg and Johan (Fires) van Vuuren. Today, the club has a membership of 45, including 3 guild members. Hennie Geyer served as chairperson for more than 20 years (2000 – 2021), and currently, the position is held by Tiaan Groenewald.
The goal of the club is to promote the timeless art of knife making by encouraging its members to strive for excellence in the execution of their trade or hobby.
Constant upskilling of club members is a priority, strived after by means of monthly workshops on a wide variety of topics relating to knifemaking. From time to time, extended courses on topics such as stock removal, forging, Damascus steelmaking, as well as fixed blade and folding knife making are offered. Non-members are welcome to enrol for these courses.
Apart from skilled knifemakers, the club also has members who specialise in leatherwork to create special sheaths or scabbards for that piece of sharp steel that is held dear by its owner.
An annual show, which has become a highlight on the Bloemfontein social calendar, provides club members with an opportunity to showcase their workmanship. This two-day event is usually well attended and therefore knifemakers and suppliers from across the country use the BKMC Annual Show as a platform to promote and sell their merchandise.

Shows & Events
Knife shows have always been a much-loved event on many knifemakers and knife enthusiasts calendars each and every year. They provided the opportunity to travel, meet up with friends, exchange ideas, see some amazing handcrafted knives, and engage with fans and customers.

Memberships are now open. To become a member of the Bloemfontein Knife Makers club, please fill out the form. Membership is valid from 01 March to 28 February each year. There are a lot of perks, discounts and additional benefits being a member.
